To introduce incoming biomedical informatics students with a broad spectrum of backgrounds to fundamental concepts in bioinformatics. The topics deal with data at the molecular, cellular, and functional levels. The course will introduce students to the data that is being managed, databases, knowledge bases, and analysis tools. This course serves as a first course for students who wish to take more advanced courses in translational bioinformatics.
