In this course students learn the basic concepts and general conceptual framework for the analysis and understanding of translation. This course explores key principles, main schools of thought, and the fundamental controversies shaping translation theory. We will closely examine and contextualize multiple theoretical models, taking into account the pros and cons of each. This course provides a conceptual foundation for translation, on which you will be able to draw when describing, planning, assessing, and justifying your translation work.This course is geared towards students with an intermediate or advanced knowledge of modern and/or classical languages (2020 or equivalent and above) who might be contemplating a career involving linguistic skills including translation.
