Description:
This course provides an overview of gender and global politics. We will explore global issues including: women's political participation, social movements, gender-based violence, and gender and war. Students will be introduced to key theories and methods to analyze gender and political dynamics. In particular, this course will assess how adopting feminist and intersectional approaches transforms how we understand and measure key political science concepts, such as the state, institutions, democracy and democratization, democratic backsliding, social movements, and more. This course aims to critically examine the experiences of women, girls, and LGBTQI+ individuals around the world and to reflect on the structural and institutional factors that perpetuate and address gender inequalities.
